Silly Sausage Sentences

Silly Sausage Sentences

There were plenty of giggles in our classroom today. And this was all while kids were doing some pretty sophisticated and intense thinking surrounding what we call Silly Sausage Sentences. At first glance, it looks easy, but just give it a try and you’ll find out that it’s just not as easy as it looks.

Sausage sentences string a thought together with words that are connected by their last and first letter. For example:

Karen never ran near rude elephants.

Harry, your rash has such horrific carbuncles.

Seven naughty, yucky yaks sang great tunes sadly.

Tim Rasinski consistently emphasizes that fluency improves and vocabulary increases when kids have fun while they play with words. Today's work with sausage sentences was a great example of this.

I wish you could have seen the smiles, heard the laugher, and experienced the joy with us today.
